 The
youth ministry at New
Life has always been an active one with the church
making it one of its highest priorities since day one. Through the
years, New Life has sponsored many events such as annual youth conventions
and youth rallies. But in 1999, a new philosophy was born in the hearts
and minds of the church leadership when they visited Church
on the Move in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, Pastor Willie
George, with his church of over 7,000, created a state-of-the-art program
and facility called Oneighty designed to blend strong spiritual development with an attractive teen
environment. After seeing this non-compromising yet relevant approach
to youth ministry, the future direction for the youth ministry was
vividly clear. After looking at numerous buildings in the area as well
as the youth group having to make several changes in the location of
their meetings, which include meeting in a bank basement and trailer,
the church began the construction of the new youth complex. Within
the first six months after opening the new center, Vertical doubled
its weekly attendance and continues to have first-time youth each week.
